It is an amazing time of day camp and the kids return tired and happy each day. Here are photos of the 1st week and some of the balloons that were made for the Safari Theme.
Sarah has been moved to a Rehab hospital in York. She looks so much better, her bones are healing in her hands but she has brain injury like blunt force trauma. At the moment she is between a stage 2 and 3 which means she has no recall and can follow some commands sometimes. She smiled at me yesterday when she saw me and that was good to see. She has a long road ahead of her. It's too soon to say how much recovery will be possible but the neurology doctor was optimistic. It has been 1 week between my visits and she has made quite a bit of progress. They are working on building her endurance. She had about 3 hours of therapy split up yesterday and was exhausted. She spends her time sleeping whenever possible. She walked with the aid of a lift and it completely exhausted her. Continue to pray for healing and for her husband and boys.
This week has been eventful. Last Saturday while enjoying my husband's company picnic I received a phone call that my sister was in a bicycle accident. There were few details, somebody found her along the side of the road, at 1 time there was a thought that a car may have hit her.... then no car, she hit the bridge.
The details are still scant. Based on the few facts we got it would seem that she was riding with her clip in shoes, hit a beam on the bridge that stuck out and little and it threw her. She tried to catch herself with her hands, which were have severe injuries and the side of her face also took a huge hit. (She was wearing a helmet). She was med-evaced to University of Maryland medical hospital where they determined that she also lost 3 teeth and 1 tooth was in her airway which prolonged surgery of any kind on her open fingers and hands until late afternoon. Sunday morning she went into surgery to put her eye back in her socket and repair her face, it was then they were finally able to get the tooth out of her airway.
Monday there was not much change... still on a ventilator, no response. Visited her on Tuesday and her hair was very matted with blood and her face a mess with the stitches. Thursday her hair was washed clean and she was starting to look like herself, although she was still not awake. A visit with the doctors brought news; Sarah was in a coma and the neurologist expects her to remain so for 3-6 months. He feels optimistic about her recovery but the brain injury must heal itself.... there is nothing that the doctors can do. Until she wakes up they will not know the true extent of her injuries.
Her right hand has pins in it and the breaks have been repaired, her left wrist is in a cast also. Her face has stitches and the healing must begin. The doctors have done all they can for her body, not it must heal... and the brain must repair itself.
Friday they put a tracheotomy and a feeding tube in and the doctor thinks she needs to stay in that hospital until she comes out of the coma.
Please pray for Sarah, for healing and recovery and for Jack and the boys. Jack continued back to work and has an hours drive to visit. The boys are all in school and only the oldest is able to visit their mother.
